Chapter 782
But the guilt Eddy felt completely vanished when he remembered that Kirk married Caroline and lied to
him.
Caroline was supposed to marry Eddy from the very beginning. His attitude toward Kirk turned cold when
he was reminded of this.
Kirk had only just snapped out of his daze and started walking toward the gates.
Staring at Eddy through the gates, he enunciated each word as he said, “I dare you to repeat what you just
said.”
Despite the iron gates that separated them, Eddy’s still heart skipped a beat when Kirk spoke.
“I said… Caroline and I-”
Eddy paled at the sound as Kirkpunched the gate with such force that the iron bars became dented.
He didn’t have the guts to speak clearly now. All he did was mumble incoherently.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt“Why don’t you repeat what you said?” Kirk roared at him like an angered beast, his eyes locked on Eddy.
Needless to say, Eddy lost the courage to continue speaking. Looking at the dent in the gates, he feared that his
fate would somehow become just like the gate’s.
Just then, a crisp voice came from the second floor. “Eddy, what’s going on down there? Did you break
something?”
It was Caroline.
Hastily, Eddy turned to say, “It’s nothing. Nothing happened. Don’t come down yet.”
But he was too late because Caroline was already walking down the stairs with her jacket on.
Seeing that nothing had happened in the courtyard, she glanced at Eddy, puzzled.
“What was that sound just now? It was so loud,” she said.
Eddy was confused. He followed her gaze only to find out that Kirk, who had been standing by the gates just a
moment ago, was nowhere to be seen.
Realization dawned on Eddy when he recalled how Caroline had reacted when he had tried to bring up
the past.
A small smile hung on his lips. ‘It’s nothing at all. Nothing’s wrong. You should go upstairs and rest.”
“Are you sure?” Caroline noticed the dent in the gates.
“Why is the gate dented? It looks like some kind of animal did this.”
“Nah. A helpless and incompetent fool did that,” said Eddy.
“Hurry and head upstairs. I’ll have someone come and fix this.”
“Okay then.”
Taking one last glance at the gate, Caroline felt a strange feeling feeling in her as if she had seen this
before.
However, she couldn’t remember where she had seen it before, no matter how hard she tried to
remember.
Her head started throbbing when she tried to recall the past, so she quickly stopped thinking about it.
After she left, Eddy walked up to the gate and glanced around. Kirk had left indeed.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmScoffing, Eddy said, “Uncle Kirk can’t even see Caroline now, so how is she going to remember him?”
He had just finished talking when a hand shot out from the darkness, putting him in a chokehold and
suffocating him.
His eyes widened in shock and fear as Kirk stepped out from the shadows and came into sight. “You…
Didn’t you leave?”
Kirk’s dark and gloomy eyes stared back into his. “I’ll be watching you. Always. If you dare to hurt her …”
Kirk’s voice trailed off as he tightened his grip, making Eddy struggle for air.
“Y–you needn’t say … I’ll take … good care of her,” gasped Eddy, whose legs had turned to jelly.
Only then did Kirk release his grasp of Eddy, and the latter stumbled a couple of steps backward.
When Eddy raised his eyes later, Kirk was nowhere to be found. A shiver ran down his spine as the feeling
of him and Caroline being watched by Kirk sank in.
If he so much as tried to hurt Caroline, Kirk would materialize from thin air. Feeling his hair stand on its ends, Eddy
pulled his clothes tighter around him and rushed back into his room.
He had just got into the room when his phone started ringing.
