Chapter 148
Serenity was a mess when she got back to her rental house. She left on New Year’s Eve, which was
only a few days ago, but it felt like a lifetime had passed since then.
The air in the small rental house felt cold. Serenity could not help but smile bitterly. From now on, she
would be living by herself again.
No one would keep her company, no one would chat with her in the middle of the night, and no one
would call her “Sis” with a smile anymore!
The first thing she did was to grab a set of clean clothes and take a shower to wash away the filth. After
that, she started to organize the house.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtJackson had not stayed here for long, but he left many traces in the house. His dishes and cups, his
towels and toothbrushes, his worn clothes and shoes…
She gathered all of them one by one and put them in a cardboard box.
Why not throw them away? She asked herself that. They would only take up space. However, she
would rather put them away than dispose of them. It’s laughable, but she missed the days she spent
with Jack,
Obviously, Jack was nothing but a lie. He was a lie created by Jackson Valor, but… her fondness for
Jack

She was so happy to have Jack because she was no longer alone.
Finally, Serenity picked up the gloves she had not finished knitting. Originally, she planned to find time
to finish the gloves after the New Year so that he would have gloves to wear, but… that’s no longer
necessary.
She threw the gloves together with the needles and yarn into the cardboard box. She then sealed the
box up with tape and kept the box in a corner of the house.
From now on, she would live alone. Jack was just a person from a dream, Serenity told herself that.
That night, she did not turn off the light. She went to bed with the light on. After her release from prison
and before she met Jack, she always slept with the light on like this, because the darkness would
remind her of things that happened in the prison.
But after Jack moved in with her, she could finally fall asleep even with the light off.

Before going to bed, Serenity called Lisa and told her friend that she was back in the rental house.
“Will you be home tomorrow? I’ll come over,” said Lisa,
“Yeah, I will,” she said. She had nowhere to go anyway.
That night, she rinsed her mouth countless times, but the taste of blood remained strong.
The next day, Lisa came over. When she saw how tired Serenity looked, she asked anxiously, “I saw
the news this morning. You were mobbed when you left the hospital yesterday, right? Are you hurt?”
Serenity shook her head. “It looked bad, but I didn’t get hurt.”
Seeing the self-deprecating look on her friend’s face, Lisa was angry and heartbroken. She was angry
at the mob for treating an innocent person like that. She also felt sorry for her friend who was
sentenced for drink driving even though she obviously did not drink.
