Chapter 34
"How are
are you, Julian?" My therapist. Cara, asked me.
1 had been going to therapy for three years. | was trying to cope with Emily's absence, but it was getting harder.
| went to five different therapists |
and decided that Cara was the best. At least she was able to makeadd something to my routine that did not
revolve around Emily.
"I would be lying if | said that I'm okay, but I've been working with my nephew on his science project, so | guess
this is good. It's taking my mind off of Emily" Had | gone insane? Probably.
"That's good." She gavea small smile. "Have you written her anything this week!" | shook my head.
| told her before that it was hard forto pour out my feelings, so she suggested that | could start a diary. | did,
but | added a little twist. Everything | had written was in the form of letters directed to Emily. She wasn't fond of
the idea as she feared that it might intensify my issues, but | didn't care. | liked to feel that | was talking to her in
any way.
"Have you tried writing letters to anyone else?" Again, | shook my head.
"But | have been slowly opening up to my sister. | no longer say I'm fine when I'm not when | speak to her." | was
a pathetic piece of shit, but at least 1 was successful at my job. It was the only good thing | was good at. | had
beca workaholic because it was the only thing that managed to makethink about Emily less.
"This a great step. She seemed proud. What was she proud of thought of the stupid little things | started doing
again?
"Julian, | know that this is hard, but can you maybe try going on a date?" | scoffed at the idea. "Hearout. It

not like | hate them." | rolled my eyes.
*You interact with family members and the ones you work with. You need to work on your love life," she
explained her point of view that meant nothing to me.
"My love li
life ended the day | divorced Emily," | said, getting up..
"Wait. We're still not done." She stood up too.
"I need to go see my family. It's Sunday." | left without giving her a chance to say anything.
Going on a date with any woman would be cruel of me. | would end up comparing any woman | meet to Emily
and nobody can amount to how amazing she was. | could not be that cruel to other women. For the past year, |
had been spending my Sundays with my parents. Cara was the one who suggested the idea and I liked it. It
fooled my family into thinking that | was getting better when | was still the same, My life hadn't been the same
after she left. No, she didn't leave. | made her leave. | pushed her away. | divorced her. | didn't give her the
chance she deserved.
| once was a sociable person. | used to attend parties and social events, but | stopped a long tago. | only
went to work, attended business meetings and business dinners, visited my parents, and stayed home.
Everything she left at our hwas still in its place. The only thing | kept replacing was her favorite perfume,
because every night, | sprayed our bed with it | was trying to make myself feel that she was there.
No matter how many times | tried, | couldn't forget her. She consumed my thoughts and owned my heart. Every
day, I looked at her pictures on my phone and hoped to see her in front of
about her.
| had taken revenge on every person who hurt her. | did my best to right sof the wrongs, but she wasn't
there to witness that. She wasn't there to see how | brought everybody who had hurt her down. Everybody
except for me. She was doing that without even knowing "Mumm, have you heard the news?" Harper said as she
sat down. Sometimes she joined us on Sundays.
"What news?" she wondered.
"Today we're finally going to know who the owner of Masked is!"
sister excitedly exclaimed.
"What's that?" | curiously asked,
"It's one of the most successful fashion houses. The thing is, it only appeared like four or five years ago, kupews

but its success is unprecedented. Nobody
1 bet if Eamily had established her fashion house, she would have been incredibly successful. She was incredibly
successful and brilliant.

"Today, the owner is launching their new fragrance and they announced that they were going to reveal their
identity to the world. | seriously cannot wait" My sister seemed pretty excited.
| wish | had something in my life that would makeexcited like that.
Harper put on the live streaming of the launch on TV and | found myself watching with them. There was nothing
else to do anyway.
"Mum, the owner is a woman!" Harper said, looking at the screen.
"She seems young." Mum commented as a woman in a black dress appeared on the screen. She had a huge

perfect waves and framed her face. "Hello everyone," she spoke and my blood froze. Her voice was so familiar.
She sounded like... Emily. No, she couldn't be Emily. Emily was a blonde and a little bit thinner.
"Does she... sound like Emily?" Harper asked in a hesitant voice.
"I know that my identity has been a secret for long and many of you have been trying to find out who the owner
of Masked is." She sounded confident. The closer the camera was brought to her face, the more curious | got

"Well, here | am. I'm Amelia Eddings," she spoke and reached for the mask on her face. "Daughter of Vanessa

somebody pinchin the gut. "What the hell?" Harper's mouth parted in shock and my mum's wide eyes were
glued on the screen.

"Is that why we
"She changed her name. She completely changed her name," | managed to say.
"She took her mum's maiden nand changed hers. She's smart," Harper added and all | could do was nod,

She was back. Emily was back
ng out of my mind too,
| wasn't going to let her go this time. If | had to move mountains to win her back, | would do it because, without
her, | was a soulless body aimlessly roaming around.
