Chapter 23
Spencer
I hear commotion all around me as I double over in pain. My senses are all out of whack at the moment as well but all I can think
about is my mate. He doesn't know about wolfsbane and how it can be poisonous if it's ingested. I try glancing around but all I
see is double of everything and I can't smell Ledger anywhere.
"Ledger, where are you? Call out to me!" I wait but hear nothing, "Ledger, call out to me!"
"Beta, he's gone, so is Alpha Declan!" One of the warriors informs me.
"What do you mean they are gone? Gone where, back to the pack house?"
"No, the Shikari took them. As soon as they blew the wolfsbane into the air, they grabbed them both and disap- peared into thin
air! We had no time to get to them before they were just... gone."
"Shit! Get me back to the pack house, now! Where is Pe- ter?" I ask.
"I'm here, Beta! I'm in the same boat as you, my senses are fucked."
"Fuck! We had one job! One motherfucking job, protect Ledger and the Alpha, and we fucked it all up!" I punch at the ground
multiple times, not caring that I'm cutting my knuckles all up."
"Spencer, Spencer!" I hear Cici's voice, and it crushes me that I've failed her. I feel the sparks as soon as her hands touch me,
"Baby, talk to me! Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm okay, but..." My voice cracks and I can't finish my sentence.
"What happened, baby? Where are Ledger and the Alpha? Quinn and I can't feel them any longer."
"They took them! They blew wolfsbane at us and next thing I know, I'm on the ground calling out for Ledger but there was no
answer. A warrior told me that the Shikari took them both, he said they just disappeared. I'm sorry, I'm so sor- ry that I couldn't
protect our mate!"
"Shh, it's okay, baby. We will get him back; somehow, we will bring him back home."

"How? We don't even know where they are!"
"Hey," she pulls away from me, "Are you giving up on our mate already?"
"No, but..."
"No fucking buts, Spencer! We will search high and low if we have to, but Ledger will come home where he belongs!" If anybody
can move a mountain and bring our mate home, it will be Cici, but my worry is, will I lose her in the process?
"I'm sorry Quinn, none of us expected that they would pull something like that. I guess we underestimated them, but to be honest

I think they used it as a last resort. Once they found out who Declan was, that he was your mate, that's when they pulled their
little stunt." me.
"Who the fuck told them who he was?" The Luna growls at
"Uh, he did, Luna. When they learned that I was only the Beta, they said to come talk to them when I turned into an Al- pha, and
that's when Declan stepped up and told them that he was the Alpha of these two packs. They knew right then that he was your
mate and he confirmed it."
"UGH! That stupid Alpha! I love him to death, but I swear need to hold his hand sometimes." She slams her palm down on the
desk, "I guess all we can do is wait now. They will con- tact us."
"How do you know?" Cici asks.
"Because I'm the one they want, that's why they took my mate." She answers my mate.
There is a knock on the office door and Dr. Sands pokes his head in, "Uh, a moment of your time please, Luna?"
"Now is not a good time, Jonah." She rubs her forehead and closes her eyes.
"Oh, but I think now is the perfect time." He responds.
Quinn sighs and opens her eyes, "Fine, what is it?"
"Well, Alpha Declan came to me this afternoon, asking me for a favor. And well, I thought he was a bit paranoid, but now I'm glad
he was." The doctor chuckles.
"Please Jonah, don't talk in riddles, just come out and say it. Why did my mate come to you?"

"Alpha wanted me to put a tracker in him before he left, just in case." He states.
We all perk up at hearing this, "Declan has a tracker in him? Like the one you used in Lila?"
Dr. Sands grins and then hands her a small tablet with a red beeping dot, "There is just one tiny problem, Luna."
"What is it, and what exactly am I looking at?" Luna asks as I glance over her shoulder.
"Well, Luna, you are looking at your mate's ass blinking." Everyone but Quinn chuckles.
"You put the tracker in my mate's ass? I didn't realize he was that kinky." She mumbles and Cici giggles.
"No, not like that, Luna," the doctor corrects her with a chuckle, "I inserted it into his right cheek with a needle. The tiny problem
is that the red blinking dot is no longer in the United States."
"What?" All three of us burst out at the same time.
"Exactly what I said. That dot isn't blinking anywhere in the U.S. of A."
"Then please, Doc, tell us where our mates are at, so we can go get them." I tell him, getting a bit irritated because he's beating
around the bush.
"Well, then you better get some passports or find a witch because you need to go to Europe to find them."
"Un-fucking-believable!" I yell, so pissed at myself right now.

"Spencer, stop. There is no way any of us could have pre- vented this except for not going at all." Luna states.
"Well, maybe next time we should all listen to my mate be- cause she's the only one that didn't want this little mission, as you call
it, to happen!"
"Spence..." Cici's hand flattens against my chest, calming me down right away.
"Okay, I'm fine, sorry," I glance at Quinn, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to blow up like that, Quinn."
She gives me a sad smile and walks over to me, "I know Spence," she wraps me in a hug, "We will bring our mates home, I

"How? They are witches, Quinn!" I'm skeptical on how this is all going to work.
"Have you forgotten that I am not without powers, my- self?" She raises a brow at me.
"Can you teleport us there?" I smile for the first time in hours.
“Well, no. I don't think so anyway, but I can call on the ele- ments and move things. That's all I've learned so far, aside from the
whole reading a person.
I scoff amusingly, "That's all? You sound like a fucking witch to me."
"Hey, take that back or else I'm going to tell on you!" She
uses the words she always used growing up when Dylan and I always teased her.
"Oh, if only we could go back to those days, Quinn. I would take getting an earful from our parents over teasing you any day over
what we have to deal with now."
"Me too, Spence, me too."
"Hey, if that was the case, then neither of you would have me in your life!" Cici pouts playfully.
I pull her into me, "You are one hundred percent right, babe. What was I thinking?"
"Oh, good Goddess, okay, let's figure out how we are go- ing to get passports ASAP, because I am not going to find a witch
around here. Hell, I thought they were all extinct!"
"Uh, I think I may have a solution to that." Cici speaks up, "Just call my brother, he can get you the passports and any other
illegal document that you may need."
"I'm not even going to ask how he knows how to do that, but thanks for letting me know." Quinn chuckles and then her eyes go
wide, "Oh shit! I haven't called Carter to tell him about Declan!"
Quinn runs around the desk to go make that call as I pull my mate out into the hall for a bit of privacy, "You know he chose us
before they took him."
"What do you mean?" She asks.

"The Shikari told him that his father wanted him home and he refused, he said that he was home, that we were his home now."
My eyes tear up at the memory and I pull my mate into my arms once more so we can calm each other's soul. There is still a
huge hole that I can feel where Ledger is supposed to be. I will not feel whole again until he's back home with us where he
belongs.
