Chapter 2630 “If I were you, I'd call it quits and turn myself in, confess to the mess I've made!” Balfour said with an indifferent tone, yet his palms were secretly drenched in sweat.

The less he seemed to care, the better his chances of diverting Mara’s focus from Ivy. He feared that in a sudden burst of fury, Mara might do something to Ivy.

“Ha! Balfour, oh, Balfour, don’t you think it’s a little late for that kind of talk? Confession? What good will that do now?” Balfour frowned and asked her if she ever feared the ghost of Victoria would haunt her in her dreams.

What was there for her to fear? If she had been afraid, she would never have acted! From the moment she slipped an overdose of sleeping pills into Victoria's Thanksgiving turkey stuffing, there was no going back.

Oh, dear sister, don’t blme. You took so much from me; | merely gave you a taste of your own medicine. As for Balfour, I'll take care of him for you. Rest in peace.

Balfour's face contorted in disgust, “Do you really think people loved your sister just for her looks? You could never achieve the virtues she possessed. You'll never be half the woman she was!” His words struck like a hammer, shattering Mara’s delusions. Mara’s voice was laced with sorrow, “Why do you have to be like this? Why?” Balfour neither understood nor cared to understand Mara’s grief, his only advice was, “Stop this madness. Karma will catch up to you.’ “Karma?” Mara sneered, “My karma is falling for you. If it weren't for you, | could've been happy. You've ruined my life, and | won't let you off the hook!” won't let you x i hook!” In the blink of an eye, Mara lunged at the hospital bed where Ivy lay, her hand revealing a hidden blade! Balfour's pupils dilated as he threw himself towards the bed, not hesitating even as the gleaming knife threatened to meet his flesh.

“So, you'd throw away your life for her? Fine. I'll make sure you spend the rest of your days in misery, never together!” Mara’s laughter was twisted with malice. The more Balfour risked his life, the more she resented him.

Why? Why was it always someone else? First Victoria, now Ivy. Mara had never truly been a part of Balfour's world.

“We won't be needing your concern for our future,” a crisp, pleasant voice interrupted.

1/2 08:30 Mara turned in disbelief towards Ivy on the bed. She was awake! And she had grasped Mara’s wrist, immobilizing her.

Mara’s eyes then darted back to Balfour, filled with incredulity. When she had snuck into the hospital, Ivy had been comatose on that very bed.

Mara had hurled insults at her, even held a knife to her throat, and she hadn't so much as flinched. How was she awake now? Was all of this a trap just to catch her? Seeing Ivy safe and unharmed, Balfour finally exhaled in relief, his heart settling down after hanging by a thread.
