Chapter 1882
Lea obediently affirmed.
As soon as Bertha opened the door, she spotted McNeil hesitating at the entrance, his steps abruptly halted.
Bertha looked at McNeil in surprise, then turned her gaze towards Marlinie on the hospital bed.
Marlinie was still covering her chest, trying to regulate her uncomfortable breathing. Realizing that her best friend’s
footsteps had stopped and not hearing the door close, she raised her eyes towards the entrance of the room, then
her pupils suddenly contracted!
A man she hadn’t seen in nearly twenty years suddenly appeared before her eyes, leaving both parties somewhat
astounded.

Bertha snapped back to reality, casting a complex glance at McNeil before closing the door.
However, the door didn’t shut successfully. It was blocked by McNeil’s arm.
Despite blocking the door, McNeil seemed to realize how unwelcome he was. He spoke in a low voice, “Let me in; I
want to see her.”
Bertha was in a bind. She glanced back at Marlinie. Seeing her best friend still looking away, radiating a strong
sense of rejection, she shook her head at
McNeil.
“She doesn’t want to see you. You should leave.”
But McNeil still blocked the door, unwilling to move his hand. “I just want to see her.”
Bertha was at a loss, knowing that attempting to close the door now would hurt McNeil’s arm.
While Bertha was hesitating about what to do, McNeil had already pushed the door open and walked in!
By the time Bertha snapped back to reality and tried to stop him, it was too late, “Hey! Wait, you can’t just barge
in.”
McNeil entered the room, not daring to get too close, standing about six feet away from Marlinie’s bed. “Marlinie,
you’re still alive.”
Marlinie never gave him another glance. She lowered her eyes, took a deep breath and said, “What? Are you
disappointed that I’m still alive?”
McNeil’s handsome eyes, marked by the passage of time, darkened. He opened his mouth as if to explain
something but in the end, all he said was, “I’m glad you’re still alive.”

Marlinie, who was already feeling unwell, felt her breathing worsen upon seeing someone she didn’t want to see.
“You can leave now!”
McNeil remained silent before asking in a low voice, “Marlinie, why are you in the hospital? Are you sick?”
Marlinie still ignored him, her usually mild-mannered voice now intense, “It has nothing to do with you! Please leave
my room immediately!”
McNeil opened his mouth again but before he could say anything, Marlinie interrupted him,
“Leave! Leave now! I don’t want to hear your voice!”
Seeing Marlinie become so agitated, Bertha quickly went over to McNeil. “Mr. Howard, Marlinie needs some peace
and quiet. Please leave and we can
talk another time.”
McNeil’s eyes reflected a hint of sadness; he had no choice but to turn and leave the room.
Bertha followed him out. Now she needed to find a doctor to check on Marlinie! She was already unwell and the
sight of someone she didn’t want to see had only agitated her further.
It was too worrying!
