Chapter 1699 Bedfellows
Ian shrugged off his coat and proceeded to rummage through his closet for loungewear. “He didn’t seem
particularly angry. I think he isn’t as uptight as he used to be.”
“Ah...” Aurora paused before she muttered, “That means he’s changed a lot. I can’t imagine how he’d tolerate this
whole media thing back in the day; knowing him, he would have blown the entire house in a fit of rage.”
He chuckled and walked out of the room after changing into a fresh set of clothes. “Give the guy some credit. The
decades have really smoothen out some of his rough edges.”
“Talk about a miracle,” she grumbled with a scoff.
Meanwhile, Cindy was letting out a yawn as she leaned into the couch. She wasn’t particularly exhausted, but the
events of the day were catching up with her, and if she were to lay down now, she would be in dreamland in no
time.
At the sight of this, Ian stepped out of his bedroom and commented, “Why don’t you go in and take a nap? I’ll be
out here watching television for a bit.”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtShe hesitated for a moment before she stood up and took him on his offer. “I guess that works. Thanks for letting
me have the bed.”
At this moment, Aurora interjected as she eyed Ian meaningfully, “Why don’t you go in and take a nap too? You
guys have had quite the day. It’s only normal if you feel worn out.”
He knew what his mother was trying to say and grinned at her. “I’m not worn out at all. Here, why don’t you sit
down with me and we’ll talk about our day?”
Aurora had no intention to engage in idle conversation with her own son. “Well, I’m worn out, even if you aren’t,”
she said pointedly. “I’ve been sitting around the house for half a day and I would like to retreat into my bedroom.”
As she stood at the doorway of Ian’s bedroom, Cindy heard Aurora and picked up on the hidden meaning of her
words. She understood that Aurora was only trying to give her and Ian some privacy. As such, she pretended as if
she never heard anything and merely walked into the room, although she left the door ajar instead of closing it all
the way.
Outside, Aurora was still trying to get Ian to move into the bedroom. “Just go and take a nap. You don’t have to wait
until I get into the room and end up sleeping on the couch. What’s wrong with the both of you? Is there some
grudge I don’t know about? Bury the hatchet and make up in the bedroom, why won’t you?”
Okay, that’s enough. Not wanting to hear where Aurora was leading with this, Cindy called out to Ian, “Hey, just
come in here and take a nap. You must be tired.”
It wouldn’t be the first time that they were in the same bed together and they had survived last night just fine.
As Ian couldn’t stand Aurora’s nagging either, he quickly agreed to Cindy’s offer as he padded down the hallway
and into the bedroom. It wasn’t until after he had disappeared through the doorway that Aurora turned to head into
her own bedroom.
The awkwardness that had shrouded Ian and Cindy before was no longer there. They were used to each other after
last night and knew what to expect. She lay on the same spot that she had the night before and turned to face the
wall on her side of the bed as she pulled the covers over her.
Similarly, Ian rounded the bed and sat down on the other side of the bed before taking out his phone as he feigned
interest in his social media. He didn’t put his phone aside until he was sure that Cindy had fallen asleep before he
carefully slid under the covers. He wasn’t drowsy at first, but as soon as his head hit the pillow, sleep suddenly
washed over him.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAs he flipped to his side, he found himself facing the back of her head and he thought about the feelings he had
when he held her in his arms this morning. He kept himself from chuckling aloud and after staring at the back of
her head for a few minutes longer, he felt his eyes close. Soon, he drifted off into a steady slumber.
Cindy used to sleep like a log, but ever since she started sharing a bed with Ian, she couldn’t quite help herself.
Perhaps it had something to do with her dreams, but she tossed and turned a lot more than she had in the past, just
like in the present. She had at some point flipped to her side and draped a leg over Ian’s waist, a gesture so rough
that she immediately snapped awake.
Even though she was shocked, she did not dare to open her eyes and kept them tightly shut as she waited a couple
of seconds before flipping to the other side, thereafter withdrawing her leg. When she was flat on the bed again,
she waited a couple of beats and turned so that her back was to Ian.
Next to her, Ian didn’t open his eyes until he felt Cindy turning away from him. She had woken him up when her leg
tried to grapple his waist and right now, he glanced over at the silhouette of his back. His mind soon drifted off and
he closed his eyes once more.
This time, sleep had barely sneaked up on him when he sensed her moving on her side of the bed. She didn’t touch
him this time, but she did turn to face him. After a minute or two, he opened his eyes and turned to see that Cindy
had fallen asleep, her features relaxed.
Ian took in how calm and at ease she looked before his lips curled up instinctively into an affectionate smile.
