He wos surprised to see her owoke when he returned from the bolcony. “It’s still eorly. Why ore you up ot this
hour?” he osked.
Ian took a deep breath. “Perhaps there’ve been too many things going on recently. I don’t know how things turned
out when Leah caused havoc at the hospital that day. He wasn’t doing that well when we met him back then, but
I’m sure his health only deteriorated after losing his temper in response to Leah’s provocation.”
What Ian said made sense—even a young man could get a stroke from losing his temper, let alone an old man like
Bryce. Ian shut his eyes for a while before he spoke. “Alright. Let’s go to bed now. We’ll see if anything happens
tomorrow morning.”
Cindy wasn’t too worried about matters with Bryce, so she fell asleep after a short while and remained asleep until
the following day. When she woke up, Ian was no longer by her side. She sat upright and pulled the curtains open to
glance out the window. It was still early in the morning, and the sun wasn’t too bright yet. There were barely any
residents strolling around the housing area when she looked at the grounds outside.
Once Cindy walked out of the room, she spotted Ian standing by the balcony and talking on the phone. She could
guess who he was talking to. Although Ian appeared cold and heartless on the outside, and although he acted as if
he didn’t care, he was secretly a soft-hearted individual. When Cindy finished showering and getting ready, she
walked out to find that Ian had gotten off the call.
He was surprised to see her awake when he returned from the balcony. “It’s still early. Why are you up at this
hour?” he asked.
She went over to hug him. “You’re up early too. What is it? Did something happen at the hospital?”
Ian shook his head. “No. I just gave the hospital a call because I was worried.” Apparently, Sean had woken up
earlier that morning and was already in the ward with Bryce. The doctor had gone to check on Bryce in the
morning but highlighted that Bryce’s vital signs weren’t too ideal. Although the doctor didn’t mention that Bryce
was close to death, the doctor did point out that Bryce was probably in a lot of suffering since he was conscious. “If
the family members insist on keeping him alive, all we can do is to provide him medication and equipment to keep
him alive,” the doctor told Sean.
After his conversation with the doctor, Sean called to ask Ian for his opinion. Ian didn’t have much of an opinion,
and he was reluctant to make any comments as well. After all, Ian had never been close to Bryce, so he felt like it
wouldn’t be right for him to come forward and voice his opinions during such times. So, Ian decided that he would
go along with whatever Sean decided on. Ultimately, Sean could do whatever he wanted, and no one would resent

Cindy looked at Ian with her arms around his waist. “Is Mr. Morgan awake now?”
Ian shook his head. “No. He hasn’t shown any signs of consciousness,” Ian replied. “He seemed to have woken up
some time in the middle of the night, but he didn’t seem too clear-headed then. He simply opened his eyelids
without shifting his pupils, and he shut his eyelids after one minute or less.”
No one had expected Bryce to experience such a huge change in his physical health within such a short period. Ian
thought that Bryce would stop pretending and return to his usual life once he was done dealing with Leah. However,
Bryce’s initial plan to act sick had somehow gone out of hand, and he had ended up actually being sick. It seemed
like everyone who knew Bryce had expected more from his physical capabilities. But regardless of how strong and
powerful he had been, he still had to face the weakness of the shell he was living in. It didn’t matter how powerful
his thoughts and intentions were—nothing would work if his body didn’t cooperate.
“Should we go to the hospital later?” Cindy asked after a while.
Ian nodded. “We can go before lunch.” Sean had to go to work soon, and he wouldn’t be able to stay at the
hospital. Although Sean hadn’t explicitly told Ian anything, Ian could sense that Sean wanted him to visit and take
care of their father. Regardless of how Ian perceived his relationship with Bryce to be at this moment, he couldn’t
bring himself to reject Sean during such a time.
Cindy nodded. “You should do that. However, I think you should contact the company. It’d be great if this
appearance could be used—it could also be saved and used some other time.”
